Christine and Charlie Booras
Jacksonville officially recognized community cat management as part of its animal ordinance in 2010, and former mayor John Peyton signed a proclamation in 2009 that Jacksonville would also recognize Oct. 16 as National Feral Cat Day after feral cat advocate Christine Booras petitioned him to do so.
Booras, who is waiting to hear back from the Governor's Office on a similar proclamation, found her colony in a Southside strip mall about three years ago, after following a cat that had been looking at her while she was in her studio. She has since moved her work as a massage therapist and personal trainer, but she still drives twice a day to feed her colony of about eight .
