To say I flipped out is an understatement..... I got her to agree to let me take the bird on Friday to the rescue lady I got Burt from. She knows how to trim it...... I cannot believe this nut allowed her bird to get like this. She has fresh highlights in her hair this week, but her bird can't eat.... unfreaking believable! I do not want to give it back to her (but do not want to take it on, it isn't fair! I take care of my pets, and she should too!) But, an overgrown beak can be a symptom. It can also just be very poor diet. I'm guessing since she doesn't care enough to get her birds beak trimmed, she isn't feeding him anything but cheap pet store seed. Would she be willing to surrender him to the rescue you got your bird from? If his beak is that overgrown it will need A LOT of trims to get it back down to proper size, since the blood vessels grow out with the beak just like with nails and they can only trim a little at a time. It will need trims every couple of weeks.
